Resume file names recruiters actually open
Recruiters scan their downloads folder faster than they scan resumes. The file name is your first impression. Here's the format that works.

TL;DR FirstName-LastName-Resume.pdf. Nothing else. No dates, no version numbers, no target role, no 'FINAL' or 'v3'.
Why it matters A recruiter downloads 40 resumes an hour. Half are named 'resume.pdf', 'resume-final.pdf', 'cv (2).pdf'. Yours needs to be findable and forwardable without renaming.
The exact format 'Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf' — hyphens, not spaces (URLs), not underscores (harder to read). Add nothing else. If applying to a specific senior role, 'Firstname-Lastname-Resume-PM.pdf' is acceptable — but only if the recruiter asked for role tailoring.
What to never do Never: 'resume.pdf', 'cv.pdf', 'MyResume2026FINAL.pdf', 'For Google.pdf', 'Firstname's resume.pdf'. All of these read amateur and none help retrieval.
Kairos exports with the right name by default Every Kairos export names the file 'Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf' automatically. One less thing to remember.
