Should you write a resume summary? A decision framework
The summary is either the best 3 lines of your resume or the worst. Here's how to know which one yours is.

TL;DR Write one if you can name your target role, years of experience, and one signature achievement in 3 lines. If any of those is fuzzy, skip the summary — a bad one is worse than none.
The 3-line test Line 1: your role and years. Line 2: your domain and one credibility marker. Line 3: what you're looking for. If all three are sharp, you have a summary. If any is generic ('passionate about excellence'), delete.
When to definitely include one Career changers — the summary reframes your past for the target role. Senior candidates — the summary can carry a signature achievement that anchors the whole resume.
When to skip Fresh grads with limited experience. Anyone whose experience obviously tells the story. Anyone whose draft summary uses the word 'passionate', 'motivated', or 'dynamic'.
